Current Obsession: Citrus Breeze

We're currently obsessing over Santee Alley's new arrivals, and we couldn't help but notice a pattern of citrus hues and softer blue and peach colors that remind us of a perfect tropical breeze. We love the idea of adding a pop of orange or yellow to our summer outfits.

InstaNew: New at the Santee Alley

Check out the latest styles and trends at Santee Alley via the LA Fashion District's Instagram lens...

Continuing with the huge neon trend this spring, we've spotted neon and neon-accented jewelry throughout the alley. The latest: a new pop-up jewelry vendor set up shop last week at 1121-D in the alley. You'll find them on the left-hand side of the store. They have a gorgeous assortment of chunky necklaces, bangles, and earrings with colorful pops of neon, as well as bright-colored summer beach hats.

Bliss Shoe Boutique has an assortment of new wedge and chunky heel styles. Bliss reports the color-blocking and bright color fashion trends have carried over into shoes and they expect to have more bright-color-blocked heels and wedges for summer.

Beach-ready styles have invaded the alley. Maxi dresses, beach hats and swimsuits are the most popular. You can find the styles above on the corner of Olympic Boulevard and Los Angeles Street.

Popular with fashion editors and bloggers, the "printed pajama pant" trend has made its way to Santee Alley boutiques. What do you think of pajama pants?
You can find the style above at Chocolate Boutique, 1120-E S. Santee St.

Children's and baby clothes are making a come-back in the alley. We've noticed more vendors carrying children's clothes, everything from graphic tees to formal dresses, and costume inspired looks like the one below.

Shoe Lover's Paradise

While browsing some online retail shops the other day we noticed some shoes looked very familiar. Then we realized it was because we’ve seen them at Santee Alley! So we did a little research and compared prices. Our findings were as follows:

The “Brighton Platform”, a faux suede platform bootie retails online for $58. The site says the shoe is described as having a rounded toe, chunky heel and a zip closure in the back

We found what appears to be the same shoe at Sexy Heel in the alley. The bootie is made by THR and has an identical description, at only $32.99.

The "Patent Platform Wedge", faux patent leather platforms with a fully lined interior and cushioned insole, retails online for $58.

Find it at Lola Shoetique for $28. They even have a better color selection!

The "Gallista", a velvet peep-toe platform, retails online for $155.

The same Gallista by Michael Antonio Studio can be yours for $130, if you buy it in person from one of Lola Shoetique’s four locations.

The "Willa Platform Wedge" retails online for $58. Buy it at Bliss for $32.99 in black and coral.

So how is it possible that the same shoe retails at almost half the price at Santee than it does online? We spoke to one Santee business owner who says often times they buy their shoes from the same manufacturer as major chain and department stores. The only difference is that department stores will sometimes have the manufacturer change the label on the shoe so it reads as their own brand. Nonetheless quality remains the same, and because Santee vendors buy the styles as is, they don’t feel the need to up their prices.
