Where to Shop for NYE Outfits

New Year's Eve party outfits at 1137-B Santee Alley

We know how important it is to have the right amount of sparkle on New Year's Eve so we headed out to the alley today with only one thing in mind: SEQUINS! We're happy to report the alley is currently stocked with every sequined item imaginable. We found dresses, tops, pants, skirts, shorts, blazers, headbands, accessories, and even shoes. We've compiled a list of the stores with the most sequined items, but there is a lot more out there. Look for the store address in the caption. May your NYE outfit be the shiniest of them all!

LA Fashion District Holiday Giveaway

Our friends at the LA Fashion District are giving away $100 to one lucky winner as part of their #PayItForwardLA giveaway. As per their announcement...

Thank you to everyone who's been a part of Pay It Forward LA! We've had a lot of fun surprising our shoppers and the Fashion District community with free parking, paid purchases, gift cards, and lunch! We had originally planned a to do a giveaway for those who've been a part of the campaign, but we've had such a great response we've decided to extend it to everyone. And did we mention we're extending the campaign too? Our Safe Team Officers will continue to intercept shoppers at the meters and pay for your parking through Christmas!

Here's how the giveaway will work:

One lucky person will win $100 Visa Gift Card to spend on whatever their heart desires. To enter simply share your random act of kindness story - whether it's doing a good deed or spreading holiday cheer - using the hashtag "PayItForwardLA" on Twitter (@LAFashionDist), Instagram (@LAFashionDistrict) or Facebook. We will randomly select the winner on Thursday, December 26.

You don't have to complete the act of kindness yourself. It can be act you've witnessed and it doesn't need to involve money or making a purchase for someone else. It can be anything from helping someone cross the street or opening the door for a stranger, to helping your neighbor put up their Christmas lights. The goal is remind Los Angeles 'tis the season for kindness, and hopefully inspire someone to do something kind for someone else along the way.

Those of you who have already shared the hashtag will automatically be entered in the giveaway. Thanks for paying it forward!

The fine print: You must be at least 18 years of age. No purchase necessary. Only one entry per person.

Wekly Fashion Finds: Vickie's Favorites

Our friends over at Vickie's Fashion just sent out photos of their new inventory and we're very excited to see these in the alley. Behold our favorite 5:

Leopard print + maxi dress? Yes please! This is such a good dress for holiday parties. The perfect way to be chic and warm.

We love everything about this^^ look. The mustard coat is such a fun alternative for fall and the print dress is right on trend.

This deep burgundy-ish hue is officially the color of the season! It's everywhere: tops, bottoms, pants, skirts, dresses, and now jumpers. You just can't go wrong with oxblood (it's the name of the color).

The other fall trend we're really excited to see take off... prints. Mixing and matching prints that is.

And finally, you can never go wrong with a classic-cut dress. The color blocking on this style helps create the illusion of a smaller waste. We're saving this one for after Thanksgiving.

Shop the looks at Vickie's Fashion located at 1136-B Santee St. or contact them at 213-745-4336.

Leon de Judah - Sports Shoes

The alley has long been known as a shoe heaven for women, but we've noticed an increasing trend in new businesses carrying men's shoes. Cue Leon de Judah, a shoe retailer and wholesaler that carries shoes for the entire family, but who's main focus is men's footwear. It is by far one of the best stores for men's casual shoes around here. Quite literally a hole in the wall, pay extra attention to what you're walking by or you'll miss it. Don't be fooled by the small location, the selection is huge!

$1 Accessories and Fashion Jewelry

One of the best places to treasure hunt in the alley is the 99 cents accessories stores. You'll find costume jewelry, hair accessories, cocktail rings, scarves, and everything in between. One of our favorite places for bargain jewelry is Accessories. The selection of bracelets, necklaces, rings, and earrings here is bigger than most other bargain jewelry places in the alley and they stay true to the 99 cent pricing on most items. Be ready to do some hunting and expect to find lots of fun, colorful pieces!

Santee Alley Dining Guide

The Santee Alley is known for its delicious street food. From pupusas and bacon-wrapped hot dogs to fruit salads and frozen yogurt. We bring together foods and flavors from all over the world! If this is your first time visiting the alley, and you're not sure where to grab a bit let us recommend a couple spots:

Bacon-wrapped hot dogs are a must-have in the alley. You can get yours with all the toppings (onions, peppers and pico de gallo) or plain. The Alley Dog also serves Mexican, Latin American and American food. The tortillas are made by hand on the spot!

This is the perfect spot for a quick snack, especially on a hot day. They have 16 frozen yogurt flavors. This is also the only place in the alley that sells coffee.

Picante is a little hidden gem sitting overlooking the alley. Not only is it the only sit-down restaurant in the alley, it's also the only place around here with a full bar! Sit in their outdoor patio and enjoy the alley from above. And did we mention they have delicious seafood too?
